Our Honeymoon in Great Britain

London and Gatwick: September 29- 30, 2000

Waiting for the Guard
Waiting for the Changing of the Guard
We are in front of Buckingham Palace looking across at the crowd gathering at the statue of Queen Victoria awaiting the arrival of the Queen's Guard. This day was the last day for the 11:00 am change and the tours of the palace because the royal family was returning the next day from Edinburgh.

Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square
Dark and dreary today because of the morning rain.

St. Paul's Cathedral
St. Paul's Cathedral
In 1675 St. Paul's cathedral was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. It is 355.5 (108.4m) feet high from the church floor. If you are willing to climb, or in my case, to brave the climb, you can view London from outside the dome of the cathedral at a height of 280 feet (85.4m), that was 530 steps!

Statue in front of St. Paul's
Queen Anne's Statue
Located in front of the steps to the entry of the cathedral. The fact that the queen faced away from St. Paul's caused much comment, including this popular rhyme from the early 1700s:
Brandy Nan, Brandy Nan,
They've left you in the lurch,
Facing towards the gin shops,
With you back towards the church.

Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace
Well, we have gone full circle and are back here at Buckingham Palace. Now we are minus the morning crowd and can get a better picture of the palace.

Plane at Gatwick
Gatwick Airport
We're back at Gatwick airport just south of London looking out at the plane that we will have to endure for what felt like an eternity getting to London. The flight home was no better, this new plane of Continental's is WAY too cramped!
